Cherry Blossom time!

Dear Friends,

Sorry, I know it’s been a while since I’ve sent out a post to all of you. I’m having a hard time keeping  up on making the food, doing the dishes, cleaning, the fun paperwork, and all the social media sites as well. Hopefully we will get back into a groove and we can hire more support staff soon.

I love this time of year when the cherry tree starts to burst with color and brings joy to many people. We seem to be in luck with the weather and this week will probably be the best week to experience the tree in all its glory.

Now that our county is back in red we are preparing to hire some more staff  and go back to serving on plates. For now though we are still packaging everything to go, but you’re more than welcome to sit on the patio or one of the three tables we can serve at indoors. All of the back and forth with service and overall lack of business has once again made pushing forward into more service a little more difficult for us. Our menu will continue to be shortened. We will add things back as it’s makes sense to add them back. We will get there we just ask for everyone’s patience as we work it out.

Now for the good stuff…

Jambalaya…..Tri tip and Prawn

Roasted James Ranch Lamb Melt…with a blueberry bourbon glaze, cheddar cheese, and horseradish cream sauce.

Cornbread flaps….. two cornmeal flapjacks with bacon cooked inside

Sierra Fritatta….. egg, smoked trout, tomatoes, capers, spinach, red onions, chèvre, topped with our roasted tomato sauce. Served with choice of fries or a salad.

Breakfast Sandwich…. egg, choice of ham, bacon, andouille sausage or tofu, spinach, cheese and choice of mayo, bbq sauce or hollandaise on our house made bun.

Thursday – Sunday

10:30-2:00 (last order will go into the kitchen at 1:45)

20th Anniversary Celebration

This week marks our 20th anniversary at Ike’s Quarter Cafe. This year has been about reflection for us. We never thought this would be how we would celebrate, but we are very grateful to be celebrating at all! Twenty years ago we moved into the building on the corner or Commercial and York St. with the beautiful cherry tree and embarked on the craziest journey of our life. We were young and ambitious and our son was barely a year old. We look back on the days when we would scoop him up in his pjs and bring him down to the cafe and start our day. It feels like just yesterday when he would enthusiastically help us make biscuits while he waited for a family member to come grab him for the day. Over the next couple of years the girls were born and they did the same. It’s hard to believe the cafe has been our life for 20 years.
Ike’s has evolved and changed so much since we opened. We’ve had anywhere between 7-24 employees at one time and have done breakfast, lunch, dinner and catering over that time. 2020 has shown us its possible to shift and try new things, even after 20 years!
We now have 3 employees and take things one day at a time. This week, we celebrate our anniversary and live in the moment. Thank you, to all that have supported us over the years. We’ve loved watching children and families grow! We cherish the relationships we have grown with all of you! We thank our landlord for being the compassionate woman that she is. We thank our local businesses that have shown us so much support. Most of all we thank our family and friends that have been here to ground us and keep us going when we felt like we couldn’t.
This week we will be picking random winners each day on our Instagram posts and have some great things to give away in celebration of our anniversary. The giveaways this week include many local businesses as well as ours because our success is due to the support of this community. Watch our feed so you don’t miss out.
We will also be giving away a free meal each day this week to our 20th customer.
Here’s to 20 years and whatever comes next! 🎉💕💫💫💫
Much love,
Adrienne & Ike

What’s new at Ike’s

Hi friends,
This is just a quick update to fill you in on something new we are starting this week.  There is now an option for you to order your meal as a “Heat & Eat”. We have a separate tab on the web page with a menu specifically for taking home and reheating. You must specify you want the “heat & eat” option when ordering and it will be packaged in foil, oven safe containers for heating at home later. We have also added batters and some sauces. The normal menu is still available as well. There is no link to order online so you have to call your orders in during normal business hours. We are still doing curbside pick up on York St. just call when you arrive. The links are attached below and both are clearly labeled if you go our website. Hope everyone is doing well and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Updates and Weekly Specials 11/12/2020

Hi Everyone,

Sorry about the email last week. I’m not sure why it sent, but it was and old update from last month that decided to do an auto send to our list!

Last week we decided to take a step back and return to take away only. The surge of cases in our County have us concerned about our health and the health of our guests and staff. The menu and hours on the website are all up to date. Facebook and Instagram have the most up to date specials and daily goodies. We are happy to do curbside by the York St. gate next to our building. There is a sign on the gate with our number to call when you arrive.

This weeks specials:

Bacon & Cheddar Frittata Wedge…bacon, white cheddar, olives, spinach, and caramelized onions, in a baked egg wedge. Served with a green salad.

Red Beans & Rice… served with gingered greens and cornbread.

Tofu Curry Tomato Chutney Melt…with pickled red onions, soy cheese, and a ginger green onion vegan mayo on a toasted roll.

Mimosa Special still …TBD, call or check social media for daily drink specials.

Hours:     Thursday – Sunday 10:30- 2:00pm

Coming soon….. Family style pre-ordered dinner options for heating up at home.

Thank you for your continued support,

Adrienne & Ike

Hour Changes

Hi Friends,

These past two weeks have been great. We have felt the support of community and are enjoying being back in the restaurant. That being said we hate to disappoint, but we bit off more than we could chew with the later hours right when we reopened. We will be switching back closing earlier in the day starting next week. The hours will be updated today to 10:30 am – 2:30 pm. The mix of 15 hour days back to back, distance learning fiascos while we’re not home, the dog waiting by the window for us to get home every night and not have the wiggle room to wait for diners to take off have made us feel clear about this decision. We know some of you will be sad and we are genuinely sorry for having to cut it off the second week in, but quality of life and family will always be first. We are almost ready to pull some specials back into the mix and we will be sending those our weekly again real soon!

All the best,

Adrienne & Ike

Open for service!

Hello friends,

Last weekend we opened up for patio dining with very limited indoor dining. We are still doing take away and encourage curbside pick up. To make pick up easier we are asking customers to pull up on York Street (the new ONE WAY) and park near our Ike’s sign across from Liquid Gold ( our new neighbors!) We will have a sign posted on our side gate by the grape vine with the number to call to let us know you are there.  We hope that this will make things easier for everyone!

Our new hours are:
Thursday 11:00 am – 2:30 pm
Friday 11:00 am – 7:00 pm
Saturday 11:00 am – 7:00 pm
Sunday 11:00 am – 2:30 pm

Our menu has been updated on the website. We made a lot of changes to the breakfast menu. We also added a few new items! Kitchen space, food cost, spoilage, change of service hours, cooking space and streamlining getting the food out quicker lead us the making these menu cuts. We know it’s disappointing, but the changes were unavoidable and necessary to keep us in business.

Reopening came with a new look and a new form of service for us. After almost 20 years we decided it was time to move to counter service. We hired Eileen Kennedy Designs to build us a counter for easier streamlined ordering and for less contact at dining tables.

Here’s what it looks like to come to Ike’s now:

  1. We do require masks to enter and you must wear them any time you are not seated at your table.
  2. Floor markings from the gate entrance to the counter are marked with the distances we would like you to keep.
  3. There are multiple menus along the way to get a glimpse of the menu before entering. We have set up a menu table along the way with sanitizer for the purpose of looking at the menu. This table is not for dining and has signage stating that.
  4. Tables outside are properly spaced and we ask that you do not move them around. We have mostly bench seating to keep the walkways clear. Two tables on the upper deck have chairs, please do not move them around or take them down to the lower patio. The lower patio walk ways need to be kept clear for guests coming and going or if there is a line. We cannot have chairs in the walk ways on the lower patio.
  5. Come inside and order before taking a table. If you claim a table before ordering someone who has just placed an order inside may not have any where to sit. We used this system this past weekend and it worked well. We had a few moments when someone had to wait with their drinks before a seat was available. Only one customer had to take it to go. Also be mindful of those waiting for a table after you have finished your meal.
  6. We have room for two parties at a time inside for ordering. One party can be at the counter and one near the door where another menu is located on the wall. Again the floor is clearly marked and we ask that you keep the doorway clear and move aside for people going in or out.
  7. Once you have ordered we will move you down the counter and get your drinks. You will be given a number and then go choose a table. We will bring your food to your table when it’s ready!
  8. Please choose a table that suits the size of your party. If you are two people please take a smaller table if available.
  9. We would like you to put your dishes and recycle in the buss tubs provided. The less staff that have to come in contact with soiled dishes the better right now.
  10. If you get up to use the restroom please wear your mask. We only have room for one person waiting in the restroom line and have signage up to remind you.

Most of all we want you to have a safe and comfortable dining experience. We are still learning and things come up each day we are open. We ask that you be flexible and provide constructive feedback to help navigate all this. Thank you to our family and friends for endless hours of support, to the Nevada County Relief Fund, and to the committed guests that came for to-go despite all of our weird hours and takeaway menus up to this point of reopening! We hope you like our new look as much as we do. See you soon!

Much Love from all of us at Ike’s

Hello from Ike’s

We can’t tell you all how anxious we are to get back to some form of normal at the cafe. With things continually changing and our dinning room still not ready to open we will be sticking with to go and curbside food for now. Every week we find challenges with this new focus of service for us. During our previous 19 years of business we did very little to go. We are learning and adapting to it each week. Last week for the first time since we reopened we had a lunch rush from noon to 1:00pm. We had long wait times for food orders. Our kitchen is still the same small size and we can only cook what we have room to cook. We urge our guests to call ahead, even a day or two in advance to place an order to help us better prepare for our orders and our day. This will also help us eliminate having a lot of waste or selling out. We are also often on the phone taking an order when we get another call we can’t answer. If you are calling and getting the message during our business hours we are most likely on with another customer so please call back. We are doing our best and we understand it can be hard to roll with all the changes. This week we will be opening a little earlier at 10:00 a.m. and closing at 2:00 p.m. We have added back some favorite breakfast items so check the link below for this weeks offerings. Everyone that has come out to support us is helping tremendously. It is very clear to us now that this will be a very slow process and we would like you all to know how much we appreciate your patience. All the best, Adrienne & Ike
